   1. Penny Banner won a tournament by defeating June Byers
      for the title. Title was then vacated in 1964 and
      remained inactive.
 
   2. Candi Devine won a battle royal for the title.
      Title then vacated in 1985.
 
   3. Title awarded to Candi Devine by official decision.
 
   4. Candi Devine awarded title in phantom switch.
 
   5. Title vacated on July 25, 1987 when Martel
      jumped to the WWF.
 
   6. Madusa Miceli defeated Candi Devine for title.
 
   7. Title vacated in December of 1989.
 
   8. Candi Devine defeated Judy Martin for title.
      Title then abandoned in 1990. In the late 1990's,
      Dale Gagner began promoting using the AWA name and
      Sherri Martel was named champion. At one point, yes,
      she beat a dude, Adrian Lynch to win the title. Super.

 

 
















The Minnesota Boxing and Wrestling Club, otherwise known as Verne Gagne's American Wrestling Association, covered the Midwest region of the United States. Our good friend, the late Ron Dobratz, correctly pointed out the weakness of the promotion as a type of vanity tool for the Gagne family. One time Greg decided to get rough with Ron at a show in Rockford, but it still didn't stop both father and son from ruining what was once a major promotion. Regardless of these bizarre affiliates, for all intents and purposes, the AWA is....DEAD! Call the Chicago Center For Killing's Hardcore Hotline at (847)604-DEAD.
