Notes:
1. Titles returned to Leo Nomellini when he returned from
playing
football with the San Francisco 49ers. They were
recognized as the first AWA World Tag-Team
Champions in
August of 1960 when the AWA stopped recognizing NWA champions.
2. Montana's leg was broken in a match against
Gagne and Nomellini. Haggerty chose Gene
Kiniski as his
new partner.
3. Haggerty and Gene Kiniski split up on August
8, 1961 when
Haggerty's interference in a cage match between Kiniski and
Verne Gagne backfired.
4. Haggerty beat Gene Kiniski for the titles and chose
Bob Geigel as his new partner.
5. Titles vacated in January of 1962 when Otto Von Krupp
(Boris Malenko) was injured.
6. Hennig and Duke Hoffman beat Ivan and Nikita Kalmikoff
in a tournament final to win titles.
7. Hennig's leg was broken in a match against Verne.
Race chose Chris Markoff as his new partner.
8. Hercules Cortez was killed in an auto accident on
July 23, 1971 near St.Cloud, Minnesota. Red Bastien chose
Crusher Lisowski as his new partner.
9. Billy Robinson and Geoff Portz beat Nick Bockwinkle
and Ray Stevens
on October 12, 1973 but the titles were
returned as Portz was substituting for Red Bastien.
10. Titles awarded to Pat Patterson and Ray Stevens when
Jim Brunzell was injured
playing softball.
11. East-West Connection (Adrian Adonis and Jesse Ventura)
were awarded the titles after Verne Gagne no-showed for
a title defense.
12.
Boris Zhukov jumped to the World Wrestling Federation.
13. Titles vacated on Spetember 18, 1989 when Ken Patera
was injured by the Destruction Crew.
14. Destruction Crew (Wayne Bloom and Mike
Enos) defeated
Greg Gagne and Paul Diamond in a tournament final to
win titles.
